  1. IT'S FLYING

Installation with concreted paper planes, 2020

The project 'It's flying’ deals with what we are used to seeing and how we have learned to look at things. It plays with the associations one has with certain objects and asks the question of how certain symbols are read. Specifically, the project is an installation with a few paper planes. Only on closer inspection do you notice that the planes are not paper planes at all, but were made of white concrete. Playing with perception is a central theme. The shape of the 'paper planes' alone makes us think immediately of the material paper, which is very light and flexible. The actual material of the aviators - the concrete is a counterpoint to the paper. It is the exact opposite: solid, hard, heavy and once hardened then no longer malleable. Concrete airplanes are not good at flying - and yet they seem to be! 'It's flying' would like to tear the viewer away from their everyday life and give them a positive feeling on the way: "Everything is possible!"
